Exakt das richtige Futter für Nerds, die Heavy Metal und solche Sachen lesen. Ghost In The Shell hat jedenfalls genug Sex und Gewalt zu bieten, um Anerkennung zu finden. Im Grunde schliesst er an die Tradition klassischem Science Fictions an, denn genauso abstrakt und wissenschaftlich sprechen hier die Protagonisten. Die Hauptfigur heisst Major Motoko Kusanagi und sie führt eine intelligente Mission durch (sie ist übrigens ein Cyborg, der aber über einen letzten Rest Menschseins verfügt und zwar die Seele). Ihr Gegner: Der Puppetmaster, der als grösster Gangster des Universums gelten darf. Der Major verfügt in diesem Kampf über bestimmte Fähigkeiten; so kann sie unsichtbar werden oder in den Geist von anderen eintauchen. Die besten Gespräche handeln von der grossen Frage, was es bedeutet, "menschlich" zu sein. Alles, was wir in einem Menschenleben lernen ist doch nichts im Vergleich zum Meer digitaler Informationen! Ist eine Kreatur, die mehr Informationen aufnehmen kann nicht auch dementsprechend "menschlicher"? Ghost In The Shell wirkt aber auch wie ein klassischer Film Noir, so düster ist diese Welt der Menschen und Cyborgs. Übrigens hält er sich strikt an eine unausgesprochene Anime Regeln: Im Zentrum bewundern wir starke Frauen, die aber auch gern nackt ins Bild laufen. Ghost In The Shell vollbrachte den Sprung in den Mainstream, obgleich ich nicht jede Enthüllung der Geschichte im zweiten Teil befriedigend fand.
