Gleich zu Beginn sehen wir das Schloss, eine riesige Ansammlung von Türmen, Erkern und Fenstern, die auf wundersame Weise zusammen gebastelt wurden. Willkommen in der Welt von Hayao Miyazaki! Alles in Howl's Moving Castle verändert ständig seine Form und Gestalt. Nicht nur Personen, sondern eben auch das Schloss. Es kann anschwellen und zusammen sinken. Ganz so als hätte es Gefühle. Dieses Schloss ist unterwegs durch die verödete Landschaft zwischen zwei kriegerischen Königreichen. Howl, ein junger Zauberer, kontrolliert es. Ein junger Zauberer, der mit seiner eigenen Persönlichkeit zu kämpfen hat. Die Geschichte beginnt aber mit Sophie. Sie ist Hutmacherin. Als sie in ihrer Werkstatt sitzt, wackelt das Schloss an ihrem Fenster vorbei. Sophie wagt sich hinaus, wird von Soldaten angegriffen und von einer Hexe in eine alte Frau verwandelt. Voller Scham und Verwirrung verlässt sie die Stadt und trifft auf eine Vogelscheuche. Die Vogelscheuche hüpft auf einem einzigen Holzbein herum und führt Sophie zu Howls Schloss. Und Howls selbst? Er ist ein Gestaltwanderer und kann auch zu einem bösartigen Greifvogel werden. Sophie fängt im Schloss als Dienstmagd an. und immer tiefer verfängt sie sich in einem Netz aus Intrigen, sie viel älter sind, als dass sie sie erfassen könnte. Sie ist eine Gefangene in einer Welt, die sie nicht versteht. Howl's Moving Castle darf als Miyazakis erster moderner Film gelten, denn er hat den Charakter eines Spektakels. Nicht nur das Schloss an sich, sondern auch die zahlreichen Wendungen im Plot. Manchmal wurde ich sogar ungeduldig und hielt alles für eine bedeutungslose Nummern Revue. Dann aber rückt wieder das Schloss in den Mittelpunkt und wer würde sich einem so einzigartigen Kunstwerk verschliessen können? - Right at the beginning we see the castle, a huge collection of towers, bay windows and windows that were miraculously built together. Sophie ventures out, is attacked by soldiers and transformed into an old woman by a witch. Full of shame and confusion she leaves the city and meets a scarecrow. The scarecrow jumps around on a single wooden leg and leads Sophie to Howl's castle. And Howls himself? He is a shape wanderer and can also become a vicious bird of prey. Sophie begins in the castle as a servant maid. and ever deeper she gets caught in a net of intrigues, they are much older than she could grasp them. She is a prisoner in a world she does not understand. Howl's Moving Castle can be considered Miyazaki's first modern film, because it has the character of a spectacle. Not only the castle itself, but also the numerous twists in the plot. Sometimes I even got impatient and thought everything was a meaningless number revue. But then again the castle comes to the fore and who would be able to resist such a unique work of art?
