(vgl. http://www.fr-online.de/kultur/kino-final-cut-auf-ungarisch,1472786,215…). - The traditional festival Magyar Filmszemle has just been cancelled on the grounds that there is nothing to show. After the end-time mood that the Hungarian film experienced in 1989 with the flooding of Hollywood productions, the development under the right-wing conservative government of Orban is a similar shock for many filmmakers. The production came to a complete standstill over two years. Is Hungarian cinema now condemned to only participate in international productions? Does it only produce the late work of Istvan Szabo and the outsider work of Bela Tarr? By no means! In Final cut, young filmmaker György Palfi (Hukkle, Taxidermia) cuts 500 films into a new one! The tragedy Just the wind by Bence Fliegauf about a racist murder of a Roma family was a thriller at the Berlinale (alongside Bela Tarr's The Turin horse). (cf. http://www.fr-online.de/kultur/kino-final-cut-auf-ungarisch,1472786,215…). A cinema blossom off the beaten track of state funding, which distributes the money with political subtlety. Bibliotheque Pasquale, a strange mix of David Lynch's atmospheric cinema and Ken Lynch's social drama, or Kontroll, which plays exclusively in Budapest's subway network and again echoes Lynch's parallel worlds, they all stand for a new cinema from Hungary.
