Barcelona als Stadt der Untergrund Kunst und Feierei gehört wohl in die 90er, bevor es Olympia Stadt wurde und sogar einen Strand bekam. Der schöne Charme des Plaza Reial und der umliegenden Gassen bis zum Hafen war die Alternative zur kommenden Business Metropole. Im Kino ist Barcelona nicht sehr präsent. Spaniens bekanntester Regisseur Almodovar dreht nur ausnahmsweise dort, wenn er Madrid verlässt (Todo sobre mi madre). Seine Ankunft in Barcelona gestaltet er jedoch so musikalisch und stimmungsvoll, dass sie zum Besten gehört, was man im Kino von der Stadt sehen kann. Ansonsten finden sich nicht allzu viele spanische Produktionen in Barcelona. Bleibt der Blick von aussen. Woody Allen hat Barcelona als Tourist besucht (Vicky Christina Barcelona). Seine Amerikaner wollen vor allem shoppen, während die Spanier Maler und Künstler sind. Auch L´auberge espagnol zeigt die Stadt aus der Perspektive des Touristen, in diesem Fall des Erasmus Studenten.
